Soft washing or pressure washing: which surface gets which

Why siding and roofs get a soft wash while concrete and pavers get surface appropriate pressure, and how often a Florida home needs its exterior cleaned.

The material matters more than the size of the area. A wall, a roof and a driveway can all show algae or grime, but that does not make them the same cleaning job. Patrick’s describes low-pressure soft washing for siding and roofs, with surface-appropriate pressure and techniques for outdoor hard surfaces.

Start with the surface

Describe what needs cleaning before deciding on a method. On a house, include siding, soffits, gutters and trim. For a roof, identify the covering and any known condition concerns from a safe location. For paving, distinguish individual pavers from plain concrete and mention previous treatments.

Siding and roofs

Soft washing uses low pressure with cleaning solutions to address organic buildup. Patrick’s house-washing service includes algae, mildew and grime on the exterior. The roof service addresses visible algae, mildew, moss and dark streaks.

These are separate scopes. Cleaning does not repair damaged siding, worn paint or roof defects. Raise those concerns before work is agreed. See house washing and roof cleaning for the relevant descriptions.

Concrete and pavers

Hard surfaces still need a method suited to the material and condition. Concrete and paver cleaning address buildup, but sealing is an additional treatment discussion rather than an automatic part of every wash.

The concrete service describes driveways, sidewalks and patios. The paver service describes cleaning, resetting joint sand when needed and sealing after preparation. Tell the company about old sealers or persistent marks so these can be considered.

Preparing the request

List the areas, describe visible buildup and mention fragile parts. Discuss gates, exterior water access, planting and movable items. A property can need more than one method, with the work for each area made clear in the agreed scope.

If you are unsure, describe the surface rather than guess a product or pressure setting. Contact Patrick’s with the actual property location and the areas that need attention.

After cleaning

Review the areas included in the work and ask about any remaining marks. Some concerns belong to repair or a different treatment rather than another wash. If a sealer was applied, follow its care instructions before returning furniture or vehicles. For ordinary exterior care, watch for returning visible buildup and discuss the surface condition before arranging another clean. There is no need to assume that every part of the property needs the same maintenance interval.

Keep a note of which areas were cleaned and which were separately treated. That makes a later care conversation more useful and avoids confusing an ordinary wash with sealing or repair work.
